6 Best Home Remedies for Morning Sickness

While pregnancy is a great blessing, it also comes with its own list of discomforts and maladies. Morning sickness, most prevalent in the first trimester of pregnancy, can cause many pregnant women to lose weight and be unable to eat. Instead of wallowing in morning sickness, try these home remedies for morning sickness. While they may not all be healthy, they can help you get through.

1. Crackers and Chips

Crackers and chips are all that many pregnant women can keep down during the early stages of pregnancy. An overproduction of saliva in the first trimester can lead to stomach upset, which causes morning sickness. Salty potato chips or crackers can absorb the extra liquid, reduce morning sickness, and help you keep some food down.

2. Peanut Butter

Because of its high protein content, peanut butter is one of the best home remedies for morning sickness. If your morning sickness strikes in the morning, try eating a spoonful of peanut butter before you get out of bed. Try using natural, no-sugar-added varieties of peanut butter. The added sugar and salt of conventional types of peanut butter may actually make your morning sickness worse. Combine this with our first remedy by spreading peanut butter on some salted crackers for an early morning snack.

3. Lemon Juice

Citrus fruits can make your morning sickness much less noticeable. You can enjoy citrus fruits in almost any way, making this one of the most versatile home remedies for morning sickness. Try squeezing a wedge of lemon into a glass of water to stave off morning sickness. You can also enjoy lemonade, orange juice, or a few orange slices in the morning.
