1. Chia Seeds Gel
Chia seeds absorb liquid very easily. All you need to do is add water to your chia seeds and in a few minutes they will turn into a gel. Adding them to water also makes them a lot easier to use in recipes.
As an added bonus, Chia gel will also absorb the flavour of any food that you include them in. Including them in your diet is very easy because you can add them to any liquid you want: water, juices, shakes, dressings, soup, etc.
The gel can stay unspoiled for around 2 weeks so making it ahead of time and keeping a small bowl on-hand in the fridge can be really handy and save some preparation time.
Chia gel can also be used to substitute eggs or butter in recipes. I use about 1 tablespoon of the gel to replace 1 egg. For butter, it is best to use ½ the amount of butter and ½ of that same amount of the gel that is indicated in the recipe.
This is great for those of us who wish to reduce the fat, cholesterol, gluten and dairy content in their diet. Not only that, but you are also replacing it with Chia seed’s tremendous nutritional benefits.

Traditional sprouting trays and jars don’t work with chia seeds. They need to be dry sprouted. There are two ways to dry sprout a chia seed. The terra cotta method is the most common way to make Sprouting Chia Seeds.
- Take a regular plate or terra cotta dish and sprinkle a small layer of seeds.
- Now take a larger plate filled with water and set the terra cotta dish in it.
- Then cover the terra cotta dish with another plate to seal in the moisture.
- Water slowly penetrates the terra cotta plate and the seeds will begin to sprout.
- The next day mist the chia seeds and on the third day harvest the sprouts.
- It normally takes around three days to get a healthy crop of chia seed sprouts.
Sprouting Chia Seeds – Method 2
If you don’t have a terra cotta dish, this method works well too.
- Get a plate, dish or baking pan and spread a small layer of seeds.
- Use a misting bottle and spray the seeds until they are moist.
